Hi there 🙏 my name is Christoph. Thank you for visiting and receiving a little bit of information about me as a yogi, teacher, and author. I love sharing a yoga practice that flows strong, but feels fun—peppered with acrobatic poses, like side plank and crow. Though I hold a Doctorate and two Masters of Fine Arts, it’s yoga that’s given me agency over my mind, (body and spirit to boot).  After that enormous amount of academic study, the wisdom of ages delivered in various yogic, tantra, and energy healing studies has given me a purpose that graduate school never could.

Where so much of spiritual philosophy is about forgiveness and letting go, I used to think there was an irony in posting this lifelong collection of grievances (https://darkyoga.org/micro-trauma/) next to my thoughts on yoga.

Now, you might wonder why I’m all about airing out my “micro traumas” alongside my yoga musings. Well, let me tell you, it’s all part of the journey. Expressing those hidden hurts has been just as crucial to my spiritual growth as perfecting a warrior pose. It’s about being present, diving deep into the discomfort, and emerging stronger on the other side.

Speaking of being present, let’s talk about mindfulness. It’s not just about chanting “om” and striking a pose—it’s about embracing the very essence of now. Sure, it’s easier said than done, but with a little practice, we can all tap into that innate sense of peace, no matter what life throws our way.

And let’s remember forgiveness. It’s not about winning or losing—it’s about maintenance, like sweeping the floor of your soul. We’re all a work in progress, and that’s okay. We’re here to support each other, not judge or compete.

So, join me on this journey of self-discovery, where every breath is a step closer to inner peace. Together, we’ll unlock the secrets of the universe and find our place in the cosmic dance of life.

Follow My Classes

If you’re ready to dive deeper into your practice, check out my tutorials, music, and both online and in-person classes based in the heart of Los Angeles. Let’s flow together! And remember, in my class, authenticity reigns supreme. So go ahead, feel those emotions, embrace the highs and lows—because that’s what yoga is all about. And hey, I’m not here to tell you to plaster on a fake smile. Let’s keep it real, my fellow yogis.

What it's like

I developed Dark Yoga after a pandemic-era hobby of doing yoga on YouTube in 2020 after my videography job at a music venue abruptly stopped. The last show I filmed was a Clan of Xymox, a quintessentially goth group from the 1980s, show in March 2020 before the venue and everything else shut down. By 2021, I did yoga on my own and started an online yoga school. By 2022, I got my certificate and began choreographing yoga to the dark music I reminisced about.

There are deep emotions you can connect to with music. It is like processing memory through muscle memory. Depending on the type of mood you want to explore, there are certain muscles and movements that go along with it. One can choreograph any kind of music for yoga, so I thought dark music would be perfect. One of my pet peeves is when yoga teachers tell me to smile.
